Matt Meier

Owner / Creative Director

As Ligature’s award-winning creative head, Matt spends a lot of time thinking about typography, the artistic value of visual communication, and the happiness of his team. His drive to do and do well was inspired by the hands-on creators he grew up with: a crafty mom and detail-oriented dad; artisan grandparents, aunts and uncles; and stage-bound family friends. As a kid, Matt got an early start in design, writing short stories and using an old Mac to typeset them in fun fonts.

His passion for the arts and arts education extends far beyond Ligature’s work. As co-founder of the Happy Hour Foundation, he brings locals together for quarterly philanthropic happy hours to make supporting local nonprofits as simple as raising a glass. He is a volunteer and former board member for several organizations in his community. As a lifetime drama kid, seeing his favorite theaters go dark for much of 2020 was challenging but his Broadway playlists have been looping on repeat. Matt has rekindled his love of reading, and created Uppercase, a font-themed candle company, with his fiancé.

Prior to co-founding Ligature, Matt held roles in media, publication design and art direction with Williamstown Theatre Festival and Circuit Media. “Playing Out,” a web series Matt co-produced for the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra, won a Regional Emmy in 2017 for Best Arts Feature. He graduated cum laude with a Bachelor’s in Visual Communication Design from the University of Evansville and is originally from Great Falls, Montana.
